Alu-Clad Doors Ireland
E3 Timber Aluminium Door System

E3 Alu-Clad Door System
Timber Inside, Aluminium Outside

The E3 is Bright Vista Group’s alu-clad door system for Ireland: engineered timber on the inside, extruded aluminium on the outside. The combination gives you the natural warmth and character of real wood internally, visible in the grain, the reveal, and the door furniture, while the aluminium exterior handles weather, UV, and long-term exposure without painting, sealing, or maintenance.

In Ireland’s Atlantic climate, the aluminium outer handles sustained rainfall, salt air, and UV without degrading. The timber interior remains fully protected by the outer shell, creating a door that performs for decades without the maintenance cycle of a fully-timber entrance.

E3 Alu-Clad Technical Specification

Engineered Timber Interior

Multi-layer laminated engineered timber core — kiln-dried and stress-relieved to prevent warping, twisting, and moisture movement across Ireland’s variable humidity climate. Available in Oak, Pine, Meranti, and other species depending on the door configuration.

Aluminium Exterior

Extruded aluminium outer shell with a ventilated drainage cavity between the aluminium and the timber. The cavity allows any moisture that reaches the joint to drain away rather than sit against the timber. Powder-coated finish in the full RAL colour range — dual-colour available.

Thermal Performance

Whole-door U-values approaching 0.8 W/m²K, meeting the Passive House Institute (PHI) component threshold (Uw ≤ 0.80 W/m²K) and exceeding the SEAI Windows and Doors Grant requirement (1.4 W/m²K). Suitable for passive house, nZEB-compliant, and high-performance builds in Ireland.

Acoustic Performance

Dual-gasket sealing system providing noise reduction up to 44 dB, relevant for front doors on Irish homes near busy roads, urban noise sources, or in airport flight paths.

SEAI Grant Eligible

E3 alu-clad doors meet and exceed the SEAI Windows and Doors Grant 2026 U-value requirement (1.4 W/m²K: E3 achieves 0.8 W/m²K). Bright Vista Group is an SEAI-registered contractor (No. 19930).

For many clients, the attraction is not only visual. They also want a system that supports stronger insulation and long-term comfort. In real terms, that means a door that helps keep heat in, works well through changing weather, and still looks right over time.

The E3 suits projects where the inside finish matters as much as the outside: premium residential new builds and self-builds, architect-led renovation projects, and commercial entrances where the door is a design statement. It is also a natural specification for passive house and nZEB builds: at 0.8 W/m²K it comfortably meets the PHI window and door threshold.

At Bright Vista Group, we supply and install E3 alu-clad doors across Dublin and Ireland — for residential new builds, architect-led projects, and high-performance homes. Free site survey included. SEAI grant documentation provided. Showroom at JFK Enterprise Centre, Bluebell, Dublin 12, by appointment.

E3 Alu-Clad Doors for Passive House and nZEB Builds in Ireland

For Irish self-builds and architect-led projects targeting Passive House certification or nZEB compliance, the E3 provides the door performance required. The PHI threshold for windows and doors is a whole-element U-value of 0.80 W/m²K or better. The E3 achieves values approaching 0.80 W/m²K, placing it within the certified passive house component range.

In practice this means the E3 is regularly specified on:

  •  Irish passive house certified new builds where every building element must meet PHI thermal requirements
  • nZEB-compliant homes where window and door U-values contribute directly to the overall TGD L energy calculation
  • High-performance self-builds where the client wants a single entrance system that satisfies both the energy consultant and the interior designer

Bright Vista Group provides product Declarations of Performance and technical data sheets in the format required for energy modelling and PHI certification submissions.

Where E3 Alu-Clad Doors Are Specified in Ireland

The E3 alu-clad timber door is specified across a range of project types in Ireland:

  • Premium residential new builds and self-builds: architect-specified from the outset as the main entrance door, often in a large-format single or double configuration with glazed panels
  • Architect-led renovations: replacing older timber or composite doors where the client wants natural timber internally and a clean aluminium exterior that coordinates with the window specification
  • Passive house and nZEB builds: thermal performance at 0.8 W/m²K makes the E3 the natural companion door to passive house window systems (see our P2 passive house windows)
  • Period and heritage properties: alu-clad doors are accepted in many conservation areas where an authentic-looking timber exterior is required, the aluminium outer can be finished in period-appropriate colours
  • Patio and garden room doors: French door and bi-fold configurations in alu-clad for garden-facing openings where weather performance matters

Maintaining an Alu-Clad Timber Door

The E3’s aluminium exterior requires no painting, sealing, or weatherproofing — an occasional wash is sufficient. The internal timber face is fully protected from the weather by the aluminium shell. In normal interior conditions (no direct sun exposure, no moisture), the internal timber will not require repainting across the life of the door.

Compared to:

  • All-timber doors: require external repainting every 3 to 7 years in Irish conditions
  • Composite doors: no maintenance but limited colour options and shorter lifespan
  • Pure aluminium doors: no maintenance but no timber feel

Alu-clad represents the lowest-maintenance option that still delivers genuine internal timber character.

E3 Alu-Clad Doors and the 2026 SEAI Grant

The E3 alu-clad door system achieves U-values approaching 0.8 W/m²K — well below the SEAI Windows and Doors Grant 2026 threshold of 1.4 W/m²K. For eligible homeowners, the grant provides up to €800 toward each external door replacement.

Bright Vista Group is an SEAI-registered contractor (No. 19930). We provide Declarations of Performance and contractor documentation for grant applications.

Frequently asked questions

Alu-Clad Doors Ireland

The E3 is Bright Vista Group’s alu-clad timber door system: engineered timber on the inside, extruded aluminium on the outside. U-values approaching 0.8 W/m²K, 44 dB acoustic reduction, multi-point locking as standard, and a full RAL colour range on the aluminium exterior. Available as single entrance doors, double doors, French doors, and patio configurations.

Timber aluminium clad doors, also called alu-clad doors, have an engineered timber interior frame and an extruded aluminium outer shell. The aluminium protects the timber from weather and UV, eliminating external repainting, while the internal timber face provides the natural warmth and grain that pure aluminium cannot match.

Yes. The E3 achieves U-values approaching 0.8 W/m²K, within the Passive House Institute’s component threshold of 0.80 W/m²K or better. It is specified on Irish passive house certified new builds, nZEB-compliant homes, and high-performance self-builds where the door must satisfy the energy consultant’s specification. Bright Vista Group provides Declarations of Performance for PHI and BER certification submissions.

Yes. The E3 is available as a single or double main entrance door in standard and bespoke sizes. Front door configurations include solid panels, partial glazing, full-height glazing, and sidelight options. Security specification includes multi-point locking and PAS 24 certified configurations. The aluminium exterior is available across the full RAL colour range.

Yes. The E3 door system achieves U-values approaching 0.8 W/m²K, well below the SEAI grant threshold of 1.4 W/m²K. Bright Vista Group is an SEAI-registered contractor (No. 19930). The 2026 grant provides up to €800 per external door for eligible homes.

The external aluminium shell requires no painting or sealing, an occasional wash is sufficient. The internal timber face is protected from weather by the aluminium and in normal interior conditions will not need repainting. This is significantly lower maintenance than a painted timber door (which needs external repainting every 3 to 7 years in Irish conditions).

The E3 is available in a range of engineered timber species depending on the door configuration, including Oak, Pine, Meranti, and Afzelia. Species choice affects the internal grain character and the finish options available. We advise on the best species for the project during the specification consultation.
